Hello and welcome to the Solar Power Beginner website.
If you're visiting this site I would guess we share an interest in solar power.
My own interest in the power of the sun is the result of watching how our world works.
As more decisions are made by giant corporations and bureaucracies it seems like individuals have less control over their own lives.
But what can we do about it?
I started looking for ways that I could take control of my own life and be a little more independent. Getting rid of cable TV was a good start and it gave me some time to think.
I pondered the power grid we are all attached to and how dependent we are on that sweet electricity. I wondered how realistic it was to reduce our dependence on those giant utility companies.
Did solar power really offer any hope?
I'll let you know right now that I wasn't interested in any alternative energy that was expensive and made people feel good about themselves but didn't actually provide much power.
With that in mind I started researching solar power and quickly got hooked. I read every solar power book and magazine I could get my hands on and learned about the history of solar power and the state of the industry today.
I began attending solar workshops with experts in photovoltaic technology (solar electric panels) and solar thermal applications.
I soon discovered that solar power really is a viable alternative energy source for everyday use. Not next year or in 2025, but right now!
I was so impressed with the potential of solar power that I decided to make a career of it. I took training in photovoltaic design and installation (solar panels and thin-film laminates) and continued to learn everything I could.
I also decided to "spread the solar word" to other people who may be wondering what the sun can do for them. That's where this website comes in.
The more I've learned about solar power, the more fascinating it has become.
What I still find most amazing, though, is the fact that we have access to this incredible energy machine that will go on producing power for as long as our solar system lasts!
I don't know about you but I think we should take advantage of all that free energy. Hopefully, this website can get you started.
